Our future fortified
Global malnutrition is an issue that we can solve together
925 million of people are hungry.
With more than 50% located in South Asia (40 million people) alone, more than 70% of the world's underweight children (ages five or less) live in just 10 countries. (China, Brazil, India, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Philippines, Indonesia)
2 billion people lack the daily nutrients they need.
1/3 of the world's population of all childhood deaths are due to maternal and child undernutrition.
Essential nutrients are the crucial link to all areas of growth and development
Important role (vision, bone growth, fights infections).
Vitamin B9, Iodine, Vitamin A, Iron, Zinc, B Vitamins, Vitamin C, Calcium, Vitamin D, Selenium, Fluoride, Omega-3, Omega-6.
1 of 15 essential nutrients (Vitamin A). These nutrients are the most vital in the 1.000 days between pregnancy and child's 2nd birthday.
Mothers & children
Statistics based in developing countries.
50% - pregnant women are anaemic (mothers).
40% - preschool children are anaemic (children).
50% - stunting occurs in uterus (mothers).
39% - under the age of five are stunted (children).
Stunted. Chronic malnutrition during a critical period of growth in early childhood leads to a reduced growth rate and permanent damage to mental development. Stunting can start fetal development on account of a malnourished mother.
1 out 3 are stunted, over 179 million children in the developing world.
Less than 40% of infants under 6 months old receive the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding. Approximately 1.5 million childhood deaths could be prevented each year with optimal breastfeeding of infants. This is about finding a sustainable solution.
Our goal? 50 million fortifies by 2015
