When one hears the word geek, images are conjured of pocket protectors and nightstands made out of old comic books. That old notion of geekdom has since evolved into a new, tech-savvy, and dare we say cool geek.
The term "geek" finds its origins in the 1500s, when it meant someone who was considered a fool. It is also thought to have come from the word, "gecken”, used in 18th century Austria-Hungary to refer to circus performers whose acts included biting the head off of a live chicken.
From circus freak to geek.

At the beginning of the 21st century, a new trend embraced the stereotypical qualities of a geek. This look became especially popular amongst hipsters, who delighted in the irony of a hip-geek aesthetic.
Geek chic variants.
A new definition. In the past, being described as a geek was considered an insult, for it reflected a certain manner of social skills or status. Today. it is used to describe someone impassioned or obsessed by a particular area or interest.This reclamation of "geek" has even gone so far as to filter into commerce, with the ever-popular 'Geek Squad* from Best Buy.
